Dominican Republic 2000 - 2006

After working for 5 years in Guatemala, Heart Care International began its next five year commmittment in The Domincan Republic.  First working at La Plaza del Salud Hospital, our joint work with our sister organization Heart Care Dominicana led to the creation of the country's only independant pediatric heart program, The C.E.D.I.M.A.T. Hospital in Santa Domingo.  This comprehensive pediatric cardiac center, supported strongly by Dominican doctors, administrators, and government officials treated over 70 children indpendently in 2008, with a committment to treat even more in 2009.  In July, 2008 C.E.D.I.M.A.T. hospital hosted an international medical conference, teaching via satellite feed, its newly learned skills in pediatric cardiac care to a number of different medical schools and programs in the Carrabean.
